![]() Alex Mayes Tabbed for 1st Number One 8th Grade Lineman Pick for FBU 2009 Youth All-American Bowl from DALLAS
-- Dec. 6 -- Alex Mayes, an 8th grader from Van
Alstyne, Texas, has been selected to play in the first-ever “Football
University Youth All-American Bowl” taking place in San Antonio, Texas,
on
Sunday, January 4, 2009. The
14-year-old
attends Van Alstyne Middle School.
Brian Polk, Athletic Director for Van Alstyne ISD, stated that Alex is a standout offensive lineman. “He has the size and ability to compete with many high school players at his position and shows keen awareness on the field. His work ethic and natural ability have paved the way for him to play in this national game in the Alamo Dome.” John Gallagher, Director of Player Personnel for FBU, stated in his congratulatory phone call to Alex, that Alex was one of the first five players to be selected for the “Football University Youth All-American Bowl” and was also their top Lineman pick for the 2009 game. Youth All-American Bowl Week will showcase the top 60 7th graders and the top 60 8th graders. The week will consist of practices, a skills competition, break-out sessions with Hall of Famers, current and former NFL stars, and celebrities such as legendary high school football coach Herman Boone. The Youth All-Americans will have VIP access to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and will also be honored during the game on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Selected players also will be profiled in SI for Kids as All-Americans, as well as featured in other media outlets both local and national. SportsLink, which started in
